Public Remarks: Historic Home on 35 acres: "Centreville" was built in 1849 by William Carey and is also known as "Carey's Corner". "The Greek Revival house is located on a knoll that is one of the highest points in Westmoreland County. The house has Flemish-bond brickwork on the principal facade and five-course American bond on the sides and rear. Its openings are headed by flat arches; its exterior walls measure twenty inches thick...The interior woodwork is of noble proportions and characteristic of the Greek Revival period at its best. The stairway, pine with a walnut balustrade, is pleasingly broken by a landing which crosses over the rear entrance...The house was renovated for the first time in 1977 when plumbing, electricity, central heating, and other amenities were introduced. (credit given to the book: Westmoreland County Virginia 1653-1983, thanks, Petie) In 2008, 2 wings were added to include spacious kitchen and great room with half bath, gas fireplace and deck for entertaining on the right; and large primary bedroom with built-ins and cedar lined closets as well as luxurious bathroom including double sinks, garden tub, extra large shower, and utility room on the left. Even with the modern conveniences, you will feel a step back in time when you enjoy the absolutely beautiful living room and dining room with high ceilings and working fireplaces, repeated upstairs are spacious bedrooms with fireplaces as well. Step outside and view the long cedar lined driveway, with pastures and barn for horses and tillable land for crops. Being sold AS-IS.
